Foodie Friday #11 - Featuring Twists on The Traditional

It has been another busy work trying to juggle home improvements, blogging, and flying all at the same time. I have yet to find the balance required to make all these balls float effortlessly in the air but I am striving for perfection and hope to conquer this circus act in the weeks to come. In the meantime, while taking a break from juggling, I started to think about the circus and some of its most famous and exciting attractions...one of which being the House of Mirrors where nothing is what it seems which, naturally, brings me to this weeks features.

There have been quite a few twists and turns on traditional recipes lately which I think deserve to hold the spotlight of the Foodie Friday Circus this week...

You can't think of a circus or carnival without thinking of foods on a stick. The corn dog by far being the most famous but don't forget about cotton candy, candied apples, and giant lollipops. This week Girlichef added Pancakes on a Stick to that list. To check out more foods on a stick make sure to pop on over to her blog and check out her latest book review of On A Stick.

This twist reigns supreme in my book due to its mixing of two of my favorite things in the world - pizza AND tacos! Mrs. Me and U whipped up a Deep Dish Taco Pizza that looks to die for!! When get off this trip I am baking this bad boy up pronto!!

I'm sure you have all heard of potato pancakes and crab cakes...how about Tuna Potato Cakes?? Cinsarah linked up this delish duo of yummy potatoes and chunky tuna and mixed them up to form crispy pancakes. These are right up my alley!!

OK - this one may not be a twist on a traditional dish but it is a twist in itself and one many may not have ever heard of...Fiddlehead Ferns from C+C Marriage Factory. I love finding new fun foods each season but if these intrigue you you may have to wait until next year to find them because according to Christina they are only available for 3 weeks in May!! Shucks...

Hitting up the chip and dip tray this Mango Avocado Salsa is a great summer twist on the traditional tomato, onion, and cilantro delight. Not only is this dish pretty and colorful but it packs a flavor punch and is considerably healthy...provided you don't eat too many chips!! :) Thanks to A Mom Not a Professional Nor a Perfectionist for linking up this delicious twist.

How about this yummy sweet and salty twist...Peanut Butter Popcorn from Joyful Homemaking. This is a great way to wow the crowd by adding an unexpected element to Plain Jane popcorn!! Genius!

Thats it for this weeks features!! Make sure to pop on over to these lovely ladies blogs and check out their recipes as well as other dishes they have dreamed up!! For now, It's time to get off this ride and move on to the next. If you were featured feel free to grab a button if you don't have one already! :)
