Cheap-o Cord Control and an Ode To Painters Tape

Happy Monday, Peeps. In all my spring cleaning and summer simplifying I rearranged my office. No. I am not ready for a big reveal. But I am ready to show you my simple little way to wrangle and identify the mass of cords under my desk.

I am one of those people who (despite recent untidy blog photos) likes to keep a clean and clutter free home. I HATE to see cords and wires hanging out all willy nilly. That is such an eye sore to this gal! That being said, I have been living with a rats nest of cords made up of cell phone chargers, laptop wires, and lighting plugs directly below my feet ever since ye ole office had its first transformation (more on that HERE). You see, I thought at some point I would rearrange the office which in turn would mean redoing the whole time consuming management of cords...though that is precisely what has happened - rearranging said office - the time consuming part of wire management is now a thing of the past. Let me introduce you to my newest friend. Painters tape. And in case you are wondering...

Painters tape is by far the most wonderful invention since sliced bread. Actually - I wasn't around when they introduced sliced bread to society but I hear it was quite the to do. In this case - painters tape is the best thing since Reality TV...for me, at least. Life certainly wouldn't be the same without The Bachelorette or all the crazy Housewives of New Jersey, Orange County, and New York. The rest of the housewives can go back to their sliced-free loaves, as far as I am concerned, but the rest are definitely worthy of being compared to the best thing since sliced bread. Seriously - this is entertaining stuff!

Back to the painters tape. I now use it for EVERYTHING. Here is a sweet little spotlight post for my new BFF. Get up and take a bow while we all applaud you, kind Sir.

Here we are this weekend. I finally got around to managing, labeling, and simplifying my cords...

Everything labeled and in it's place as it should be...oh, and did you see the zip ties getting in on the wrangling action? They are like my next BFF if my first BFF ever died or moved far away...I hate long distance relationships...

But that's not much of a spotlight...I can't stop there without mentioning some other quick and easy uses for the chocolate to my peanut butter...

Back when we were doing our renovation I had just heard of Frog Tape. On a particularly crazy day I ran into the local Menards to get our light fixtures and my quick thinkin' mind remembered to pick up some painters tape so we could paint the bedroom and all the trim. I saw green and grabbed it. It was not until I got home that I realized I had chosen an impostor. Not only was this NOT Frog Tape but it was a deadbeat version of the aforementioned. It leaked through, left weird trail marks, and tore to pieces when you tried to remove it from a wet project...such as one you just painted! I now have a surplus of this crazy not -so-great-for-painting tape that I have learned to use it in a variety of ways. Here are a few highlights of the past year...

Need to map out something on the wall (HERE) - painters tape to the rescue:

Want to remember where your studs are for hangin' pics, shelves, cabinets, and other what nots (HERE)? Booyah - painter tape:

Got a counter top that needs cutting without having to mark up the actual counter top (HERE and HERE) - call in the painters tape...

Need to hold strings in place while knotting your own ridiculously time consuming trellis netting (more on that later)? Sir Painters Tape can assist you...

How about marking where to cut some conduit all while saving you from the slivers of metal that would most likely fly up in your face? HEEELLLLLLOOOOO, Painters Tape!

Ahhhh - the wonders of PT. So what have you guys been up to? Any projects involving my new BFF? Feel free to leave a comment before and share your best PT tip!
