Green Gift Wrap

This past weekend was my neighbor, Mandy's, baby shower. The theme of the shower was all things GREEN...no, my Sillies - not green the color but GREEN as in reduce, reuse, recycle. On our Evite invitation (Very GREEN with no use of paper invites, stamps, and emissions to carry all said invited to each address) we were told to use green packaging for the shower gifts. No wrapping paper needed. Immediately the wheels started turning and I came up with this...

I had ordered Mandy's gift online at Amazon (Did you know you could register at Amazon??) which came with free shipping straight to my door. I knew from the start I would be using the box it came in but I wasn't sure exactly how. I decided to make a basket out of the box by cutting the side flaps off and two of them down to handle size. Of course, I still needed a little extra length to attach them so I just used a piece of the cardboard box I had just cut off. Duck tape to the rescue!!

I then covered the duct tape with another extra strip of cardboard...

I don't mind showing off the little bit of tape in the backside but I am sure you could find a way to mask it all together...for me, Im keepin' it real...and QUICK! :)

Once that piece was taped in place I decided to jazz it up a bit with some paper towel roll cardboard flowers. If this particular gift wasn't going to a pregnant woman I might have spray painted the flowers with a bit of paint but in the name of being GREEN (and not polluting her poor baby with toxic fumes) I decided to forgo the paint...

If you haven't made these yet they are super simple. Take a paper towel or toilet paper roll (I used a paper towel roll because it was white instead of beige) and cut it into thin slices.

Take each slice and attach the bottom point to the next slice with a bit of glue or tape...I used tape only because I had no glue!!

Keep attaching until you have 5 all strips taped together to make one flower...a little bit of tape and voila'...

I put my gift (bumGenius cloth diapers) in the box and stuffed in a bit of previously used tissue paper. This cost me $0 and about 15 minutes to put together. But I still needed a card...

I took my fancy scissors and a hole punch and made a nice circular tag from the last of the leftover box. I then took a stick from the yard and strung it through the note card. Mission accomplished!!

I forgot to grab a picture of the whole shebang tagged up and all but I think you get the gist. I just stuck this in the box and off we went...

Did you have any parties to go to this weekend?? Any GREEN ideas you would like to share? Feel free to leave a comment and a link to your project if you got one! :)
