Foodie Friday #9 - All Things Chilled or Grilled


All right, ya'll - this is the post that SHOULD have been on last weeks Foodie Friday. I just got it back on Tuesday the 17th so I am sorry to those who were featured that it was delayed but we will be back up and running as usual this week and I will include this weeks features with next weeks post...make sense?

Seriously? We went from 45 degree weather last week to 90 degree weather this week. It there no happy medium for us to enjoy? Not only is it 90 degrees but it is humid...soooo not my idea of good weather. That being said, I finally got my garden in order this week (seen HERE and HERE) and am ready to plant! Yeah for the weekend!! Due to the extreme temperatures we are having I find it quite horrid to even think about turning on the oven right now...or even using the stove for that matter! In an effort to be GREEN and keep energy usage down, I have enforced a pretty strict no oven rule in the summer (though we will use our toaster oven in dire emergencies). Therefor, this weeks features will be centered around chilled or grilled delights. Update..since writing this last week it went back to 45 degrees again...brutal...


FYI - just cuz I am doing chilled and grilled doesn't mean you have to!! Link up whatever food related goodies you like!! The more the merrier!! :)


Chilled:


Hummus is a big staple in our house - I make a fresh batch weekly and we eat it just about everyday. The Purposed Heart linked up this Healthy Homemade Hummus which is sure to switch you from store bought to home made in no time flat. And, only because it is super hot out, I am allowing canned beans to OK to use instead of pressure cooking from dry! ;)


What is a party without another dip? This time we are going southwest style with Aunt Laurie's Jack Salsa from Simply This, That and The Other. A nice cold mix of cheese, tomato, jalapeƱo, and Italian dressing is sure to kick this party into high gear!


Dawn at Creative Cain Cabin linked up this fabulous Green Monster Smoothie. With just 4 little ingredients and a blender you have a delicious, nutritious, and protein and fiber filled snack!! Oh, plus the kiddos won't even know they are getting their veggies! :)


Grilled:


LouLou Sucre sent us these amazing Grilled Oysters LouLou. Now, I ain't an expert in shucking but I think if you ask LouLou nicely she will send her husband over to crack all your oysters. I asked very nicely and am patiently waiting for him to show up...should be any minute now!


How bout another nice app to pair with our grilled meal? My husband happens to love bacon and mushrooms so I thought these Grilled Bacon Wrapped Mushrooms from The Kitchen Cookie would be right up his alley.


No meal is complete without taters. From the Heart linked up these delicious looking Grilled JoJo's that I swear I would not be able to wait for them to cool before diving in...note to self - practice self control! These are simple to make, cheap to feed the masses, and would pair perfectly with just about any main dish.


Speaking of, we can't forget the main dish...Rosemary chicken Kabobs from Coastal Pines. The addition of fresh herbs to a kabob is a great way to diversify and adds a great burst of flavor to this dish.
